Tezca is a character in The CW 2019 television series Roswell, New Mexico, first introduced at the end of season 3, and portrayed by Brigitte Kali Canales and Paloma Guzmán. She is "a tenacious woman who comes to town on a mysterious mission that sends a ripple effect through Roswell’s fragile status quo."

Appearance

Tezca primarily appears as a young woman with fair skin, long dark brown hair, and brown eyes. She has a tattoo of an alien symbol on her right wrist.

Tezca is a shapeshifter and can take the form of other people she's met. Even when she shapeshifts, her tattoo still appears on her wrist. When she uses her power to copy another person's form, her eyes glow purple.

History

On Oasis, Tezca was a teacher. She taught young Isobel to fight, saying that because Isobel's powers were so special, she would need to know how to defend herself from those who might try to use her.

One day, they heard screams nearby. Tezca told Isobel to hide and not come out, no matter what happened. Jones arrived and attacked Tezca. They fought until Jones defeated her. Tezca refused to beg for her life and told Jones she hated him. Jones said that he would mind control her to make her loyal to him.

Plot

Tezca arrives in Careyes, Mexico, where she wanders naked. Flowers bloom and frost over as she passes. A local woman, Sylvia, notices her and puts a blanket on her, and she takes her to see Allie. According to Sylvia, the woman said the name "Liz Ortecho".

At first, Tezca is loyal to Jones and intends to carry out his plans for the alighting.

Tezca impersonates Eduardo and steals Jones' body. Liz and her friends think Tezca aims to resurrect Jones. However, Tezca burns his body and says that Max will bring about the alighting instead.

When Tezca is in the cage, Isobel tells her about her memory of Tezca teaching her to fight. They visit the mindscape and discover the truth: Tezca was Isobel's teacher. She hated Jones. But Jones defeated her in combat and brainwashed her to be loyal to him.

This revelation shakes Tezca to her core. Isobel decides to free Tezca so they can be allies. In a mindscape, Isobel helps Tezca face her fears, including fighting illusions of Jones until Tezca will no longer fear him. But then the mindscape fills with people who Tezca killed while under Jones' brainwashing, bringing up her guilt.

In Two Sparrows in a Hurricane, Tezca jumps through the portal to help Max and Isobel, even though she knows she will be unable to return. She helps them focus their powers to fix the portal and delay the destruction of the world they're inside. Tezca tells Isobel that while she failed to save their parents, she can save them now. Everyone else leaves safely through the portal. Tezca smiles at them before the storm destroys the world on the other side of the portal.

Powers and abilities

• Cryokinesis: Tezca has demonstrated to be capable of this. After she either arrived on Earth or was awakened, she walked passt plants and made them both bloom and frost over as she was passing by them.
• Telekinesis: Tezca has shown considerable skill to be able to move objects with her minds. She was able to levitate objects and even move people, such as Renata Arellano, when she shapeshifted into her. She was even able to move rocks, as she did in the caves underneath Roswell.
• Shapeshifting: Tezca can shapeshift into other people. Tezca can shapeshift, and she is the first alien to show this ability. Even when she shapeshifts, her tattoo of an alien symbol on her wrist remains present. So far, Tezca has had physical contact with the people whose form she has taken. When she uses her power, she touches the person and her eyes glow purple. For the person whose form Tezca copies, their eyes turn blue after Tezca uses her power on them. Their eyes remain blue, possibly indefinitely; Renata Arellano's eyes are still blue days after Tezca used her power on her.

• Despite scanning Renata's form in 4x1, and using it to infiltrate an oil field in 4x4, she doesn't transform into her on screen until she reveals herself to Evans.
