Character[]
Max, Isabel, Michael, and Nikolas were in pods when their alien ship crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. A survivor of the crash moved their pods to safety in a cave. The four children remained in stasis for about forty years. Max and his twin sister Isabel emerged from their shared pod at the apparent age of seven. Nikolas and Michael had already separately awoken and wandered off alone. Max and Isabel wandered from their cave and were found by Mr. and Mrs. Evans, who adopted them.
Max developed a crush on his classmate Liz Ortecho, who's been his lab partner since sophomore year. When Liz is shot, Max heals her, exposing his secret that he's an alien to both Liz and Maria DeLuca.
Max is quiet and "kind of a loner."[5][6][7] He is protective of his friends, such as saving Liz's life despite the immense personal risk to himself, and attacking Kyle Valenti when he insults Liz.[8]
Max takes a leadership position in the group to get everyone to work together. When tensions escalate and Maria and Alex Manes risk exposing the secret to Sheriff Valenti, Max gets everyone to hold hands and uses his powers to form a connection, allowing for understanding and trust between them all. This forms a friendship between them and it gets everyone to work together. However, when Isabel starts seeing Nikolas who is reckless with his powers and cruel to their human friend, Max oversteps when he orders Isabel to stop seeing Nikolas, which backfires with Isabel pushing away.
