Synopsis[]

Official synopsis:[2]

DISTRACTIONS — Liz is forced to put her latest experiment on hold after Rosa begins to struggle with her new life in Roswell. Reluctant to face the truth about his mother’s past, Michael turns his attention to helping Maria, who is dealing with her own family crisis. Elsewhere, Isobel agrees to join her mother for a day of spiritual healing to keep herself distracted. Finally, Rosa turns to Kyle to learn the truth about what really happened the night she died.

Plot summary[]

Act I[]

Late at night, Isobel, Liz and Kyle show up at a house that has a sign up front which labels it a U.S. government property. Michael is already there dozing off, and shortly thereafter Alex shows up driving a military vehicle. He brings with the medical supplies, the lab equipment and Noah's remains. Alex reveals to the group that the location they are currently at used to be an Indian boarding school. He goes on to say that when it shut down, the Air Force acquired the land, but it’s been untouched for 40 years. Since it’s monitored by him, it has top-of-the-line security, so it can’t be hacked. The place has certainly seen better days, but Liz says out loud to the rest of the group that this is the place where they will save Max.

The next morning, Rosa is listening to some music on her ipod and using Max’s laptop to look up her obituary. Liz tells her to not do that, as it’s morbid. Rosa asks her sister what her funeral was like, and Liz lies. She tells her that the whole town came together and did the rosario for her, and that their mom sang Las Golondrinas. She even goes as far as to tell Rosa that her dad wanted to have Rosa in a white dress, but Liz persuaded him out of him. Once Liz leaves, Rosa takes out some metal stencils and puts on a hoodie and cap to go outside. She ends up tagging her dad’s restaurant and catches a glimpse of her dad.

Meanwhile, Liz, Kyle, and Michael set up their new location, and Isobel practices fight training. Liz and Alex help Maria put up flyers around town since Mimi has been missing for two weeks.

Rosa isn’t coping well, and ends up going to the Wild Pony, and is about to have an alcoholic drink when Max appears to her. Her drink shatters on the ground after he asks her what she’s waiting for because she needs to stop Liz from bringing him back to life. Rosa asks him why he doesn’t want Liz to save him. Max tells her that he feels like he is burning from the inside. He once again urges her to stop Liz before Rosa ultimately wakes up.

Liz is just returning, and Rosa asks for her old art book from their room. Liz apologizes, saying she got distracted but she'll look for it again. She gives Rosa a phone with her and Kyle's numbers.

Michael is down in his makeshift laboratory testing the ship fragment with a flame torch. He has a flashback of when he met his mom, losing his focus, and the fragment falls to the ground and shatters.

At Roswell Community Medical, Kyle wakes up Jesse Manes with Alex present there. Manes threatens Kyle by telling him that there are many ways he could kill him right now. Alex tells his dad to shut up, and reveals to him that they have video footage of him at Caulfield Prison, and of also throwing Kyle’s dad to a starved alien. Jesse Manes isn’t bothered and tells his son that he knows he wouldn’t do anything that could potentially hurt Michael Guerin. Kyle tells Jesse that while Alex might not, he is at the point where he doesn’t care who gets hurt in order to make him pay for what he did to his dad.

Michael runs into Maria as she's putting up flyers for her missing mother, and she asks him to show them to his customers.

Liz pulls blood from Isobel, intending to do testing to help her with her work to revive Max. Isobel finds that Liz is still keeping the "alien death serum", and she discretely takes a vial.

Act II[]

Rosa goes to the graveyard and finds "murderer" written on her tombstone. Back in town, Wyatt Long steps in gum and uses one of the flyers of Mimi DeLuca to scrape it off, and Michael gets into a fight with him over it. Rosa witnesses the fight, and ducks away when the sheriff arrives.

Flint visits his father in the hospital and they discuss the cleanup at Caulfield.

Rosa returns to the graveyard. On her phone, she watches a racist tirade that Wyatt Long posted on the internet blaming her for his sister's death.

A pregnancy app tells Isobel that her "bundle of joy" is the size of a lentil. Her mother arrives and invites her to a "woman as warrior" class.

Liz catches Rosa spraypainting graffiti, and Rosa confronts her about Liz's lies about her funeral. Sheriff Valenti arrives, catching Liz holding the spraypaint can, and she gets arrested.

Act III[]

At the police station, Liz makes her one phone call to Michael, but he's been arrested as well. In jail with him, Liz stresses about her experiment which she now can't check on.

Isobel and her mother arrive at the class, which is being conducted by Maria. As part of the class, Maria has everyone write down what they're afraid of, and Isobel writes down "the lentil."

Kyle gets the pathology report on the tests he ran on Rosa Ortecho, which show that she's perfectly healthy, but there's a sample error. A new woman, Steph, glances at the error on the report and teases him about it.

Liz asks Michael to get it together, and she realizes he's struggling with his feelings for Maria. The Sheriff asks Liz about Noah Bracken.

Act IV[]

Rosa goes to pray at a church after finding out the truth about her funeral, and how the rest of the town truly feels about her. Kyle meets up with her, and she asks him if the whole town hates her. Rosa then says how Wyatt used to be a nice kid, but now is making racist YouTube videos on building a wall between the United States and Mexico. Before she leaves, she tells Kyle that Liz got arrested for vandalism and that it was really out of character for her.

Sheriff Valenti questions Liz about the circumstances of Noah's death, and about Max not being in town.

The class with Maria continues, and Maria instructs them to take out the paper with their fear and throw it into the fire. Isobel struggles, but Maria helps her state, "I choose to set myself free," and burns the paper.

Rosa sneaks into the Crashdown and checks her old bedroom where she discovers that her bookshelf, with her art book, cleared out. She finds an old bottle of tequila she had hidden in the closet.

Act V[]

At the hospital, Kyle takes notes on a bypass surgery, and Steph is there painting her nails.

Once he is released from jail, Michael waits for Alex to get home. Once he arrives at his house, Michael tells him that he will never get used to seeing him in the military uniform. Alex asks him what he is doing at his house, and Michael comes clean about needing some answers from his mom after all. He realizes that he had previously told him to leave it alone, but he can’t stop thinking about his mom, and focus on his work. Alex tells him that unlike the other aliens, who were referred to by specimen number, Michael’s mom was referred to as Nora Truman. Alex reveals that she wasn’t admitted to Caulfield until October 14, 1948. She was the last one and it came one year after the infamous crash of 1947. Alex surmises that there could be people alive today if Nora stayed in Roswell the entire time that may have known her back then. He tells Michael that he can help him on this.

Michael rejects that idea, as he believes the two of them shouldn’t be working together. He confesses to Alex that he likes Maria, and likes being around her, even if she doesn’t feel the same way right now.

Liz returns to Max's place and has a fight with Rosa. Liz offers to help Rosa leave Roswell if she's strong enough to be on her own, but Rosa leaves without answering.

Act VI[]

At the Wild Pony, Michael's parked his airstream in the parking lot to keep an eye out for Mimi DeLuca so that Maria doesn't have to sleep there waiting. He opens up to her and she agrees to give him another chance, and they kiss.

At the lab, Liz's experiment is ruined. She tosses the samples and sets up for another test.

At the hospital, Alex talks to his brother. His father has a seizure, falling off the bed and convulsing in pain. His brother runs, calling for a doctor to help, while Alex watches unmoved.

Back in her house, Isabel "can choose to set herself free". She licks a drop from the syringe she stole from Liz earlier, trying to end her pregnancy.

On the roof of the Crashdown Cafe, Rosa pulls out the bottle of tequila, considers it, but sets it aside. Later, she appears to go to where Max’s body in the pod, and she yells at him to leave her alone. He refuses because he wants her to stop Liz so that he can die, but she's "an expert at quieting voices" and she never dreamed when she "was using". Max tries to stop her, but she's already gone. Rosa wakes up, still on the roof of the Crashdown, and takes a large swig from the tequila bottle.

Quotes[]

Isobel: "Wake up cowboy, we got us an alien problem."
— Isobel to Michael upon arriving at their new base of operations.
Isobel: "So this is where you are going to solve the mysteries of the universe?"
— Isobel to the others after seeing the state of their base of operations.
Rosa: "Did you know that Jimmy from Degrassi is a rapper now?"
— Rosa to Liz on Drake going from actor to rapper.
Rosa's narration: "Everybody in this town is haunted. They pretend everything is fine. But they’re all fighting these secret battles with shadows. And hoping the scars will eventually fade. They’re all dragging their demons around… and trying to make it look like their backs aren’t breaking under the weight of it all. Maybe that’s what growing up is. Grieving in secret for all the stuff you can’t get back. For the people you lost. For the person you used to be. Everybody in this town is haunted. Except for me. I’m the ghost."
Michael: "Life sucks, Ortecho. Everybody dies, nothing’s fair, and the oceans are full of garbage."
— Michael to Liz inside their jail cell after both being arrested.
Steph: "I believe you work hard for what you get. Take your biceps. And don’t flatter yourself, I’m making a point. It would be unfair if I looked like you. I don’t put in the work, don’t care. We all have what we deserve."
— Steph to Kyle on what’s wrong with universal healthcare.
Rosa (to Liz): "Then why don't you go back to your lab and save your boyfriend? The one that let everybody think that I'm a murderer. Who lit me on fire, who watched when people threw bricks at our house and didn't come clean them. You remember him? The guy that you chose to love."
