"Jones" is the Human alias adopted by an Oasian character otherwise referred to only as "the Dictator", in the CW television series Roswell, New Mexico, first introduced in season two. He is an alien who stowed away on the ship that crashed in 1947. Jones is portrayed by Nathan Dean.

Appearance

Jones looks nearly identical to Max Evans. Unlike Max, Jones does not have Max's tattoos. Jones initially has a beard, but he later shaves it and cuts his hair, so he and Max can be impossible to tell apart on sight.

History

Prior to the 1947 crash, Jones and Louise Truman fought where Max was chained up. He stowed away on the ship and caused the ship to crash on Earth. At the crash site, Jones placed his hand on Nora's shoulder before starting a battle with the humans by throwing fire at them.

Jones somehow got away that night and took on the identity of Mr. Jones and kept a farm where crop circles appeared.

Plot

While talking with Walt Sanders about Nora Truman, Isobel asks him whose hand is on Nora's shoulder in the old newspaper photographer. Sanders doesn't remember, saying it could have been several people, and names Mr. Jones as one of the possibilities. Isobel later shows the photo to Max and points out that whoever's hand is on Nora's shoulder, Nora does not want him to touch her, and Isobel thinks it might mean something.

When Max touches the alien console at CrashCon, he hears voices but can't quite make them out.[1] He takes more of Liz's serum and is finally able to start to make sense of it, and that leads him to looking for a tunnel out in the desert. He calls Isobel and Michael out to help him. The three find an alien door and hear Jones on the other side calling for help, so they bring the door down and find Jones.[2]

Powers and abilities

Powers

Jones is an Oasian with paranormal abilities whose specialty seems to be pyrokinesis, allowing him to manipulate and generate fire.

  • Pyrokinesis: Shown in flashbacks, Jones has the ability to generate fire as demonstrated when he used it to cause a fire at the 1947 UFO crash site and murdered Hector Valenti. Jones has also demonstrated to use his pyrokinesis in duel-comparison with his mental manipulation, allowing him to make a rock-formation in the same shape the the alien symbol, and light them on fire, as he sits, in the middle and allows him to enter the mindscape, with higher concentration and duel power.
    • Fire Immunity: As shown, Jones is completely immune to the exposure of fire and burning flames and by discovering this on the Oasis, he came to think he was immune to death, or in other words he thought he was immortal, and this is believed to stem from his ability to control fire. It has also shown that since all alien abilities are genetic, his son, Michael has also inherited this ability, as well as his ability to manipulate fire, over time.
  • Mental Manipulation: Similar to both Isobel and Noah, yet much more powerful and concentrated, as he was able to completely take over someone's mind when entering it and have complete control of them, such as Deputy Pete to make him park miles away or to Sheriff Brooke Taylor, making her put a gun on Dallas and shoot herself in the leg. Yet he was unable completely take over Maria's mind, because her empathic intuition allowed her to sense him entering her mind and to keep him in a mental prison temporarily while he was in her mind. He has even said to have a level of low empathy, as said he could pick up anxiety coming from Isobel, angry coming from Michael and such a level of desperation coming from Liz to get him to drink so she could drug him. Just as all alien abilities are genetic, his son, Michael has also inherited this ability as well, and is able to use it in virtually the same way.
  • Animal Communication: Jones was shown to have conversations with his dog, Lucky, a pitbull he adopted after accidentally shooting him.
  • Psychic Imprint: Jones possesses a psychic imprint, enabling him to deliver messages, through said imprint.
    • Memory Viewing: Jones was able to use this on his planet on a fallen solider, to see the existence of Max and in 1948 on Roy Bronson, to see where their cave was to find young Max. He also did this to Maria when he tried to learn the information about the thieves in Max's home and learning that her grandmother's name was Patricia.
    • Memory Sharing: Jones was able to share the memories of the information, to tell Max that he is a clone.
    • Psychic Body-Swapping: Jones is able to mentally transfer his consciousness into one of his other clone's bodies, primarily Max, and then put one of his clone's consciousness into his old body.
  • Electromagnetic Energy Manipulation: Jones has shown to be able to manipulate electrical currents, allowing him to instantaneously create a highly-concentrated electrical surge in his hand to kill a doctor from Los Alamos.
  • Healing: As shown in multiple flashbacks, Jones has demonstrated to be an incredibly powerful healer, and said that he is able to heal Max permanently.
  • Telekinesis: As shown in a flashback, Jones is capable of moving objects toward and away from him.

Abilities

  • Expert Swordsman: In a flashback, Jones has demonstrated to be very experience with his alien sword against Louise, while she was protecting Max as a child.
